Once on This Island theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” sings and dances the story of Ti Moune, the black peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a mulatto from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. Night at the Reef Maui Ocean Center celebrates International Year of the Reef in 2008 by launching a new program, inviting the public to visit the aquarium's Living Reef exhibits after-hours. Volunteers from local eco-organizations will be present with information on the state of Hawaii's coral reef eco-systems. Pupu and beverages will be available for purchase. 6pm-8pm. Maui Onion Festival a cross-cultural theme of agriculture, joy, and good food. Traditionally, keiki and adults get serious in a 60-second Maui Onion eating contest. Chefs demonstrate cooking techniques and compete for the best onion recipes, farmers talk story, and there's lots of keiki and adult activities from onion-themed foods, onion-themed games, jazz and island music and entertainment att Whalers' Village. Maui Gold Pineapple Festival all things pineapple, this festival takes place at Kapalua Resort in West Maui from 9am-2pm. Maui Marathon/Half Marathon is a point to point course from Kahului to Kaanapali. It is recogonized as one of the most scenic marathons in North America with most of the course running within 50 feet of the Pacific Ocean. The Maui Half Marathon is out and back from Whalers Village in Kaanapali. This flat and fast course passes through Lahaina Towne. Walkers are welcome in all events. Kapalua LPGA Classic full-field tournament is the third LPGA Tour event in Hawai'i on the Bay Course in Kapalua Resort. The scenic venue will be accompanied by a $1.5 million purse. Stars of ladies professional golf who will play 72 holes in this tournament include Morgan Pressel, the youngest LPGA golfer to win a major tournament. Practice rounds and a Pro-Am open. Xterra World Championship the final stop on the Xterra Global Tour-a national and international series of 100+ qualifying events held in Brazil, Saipan, Germany, New Zealand, France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Italy, South Africa, Argentina, Costa Rica, Japan and the U.S. The course, considered Xterra's toughest, consists of a 1.5-kilometer rough water swim, a 32K mountain bike on the lower slopes of Haleakala and a 12K trail run. The field is limited to 500 competitors, including 80 pros, who represent the best off-road multisport athletes on the planet. Halloween in Lahaina on world-famous Front Street is more than just a night on the town in costume. It includes costume contests with great prizes for all ages, a children's costume parade beginning 4:30pm, plus food, crafts and activities in Banyan Tree Park from 5pm. Hula O Na Keiki featuring a children's hula competition, Hawaiian arts & crafts, classes to create hula implements, lei, lauhala creations, carvings, and more. There will be over $10,000 in cash and prizes awarded this year.
